Leucophyllum frutescens, also known as Texas Sage (Texas Ranger, Nikodia) is a flowering shrub native to the Southwest United States and northern Mexico. This drought-tolerant evergreen shrub is easy to care for and can reach heights of up to 8 feet. Its attractive gray-green foliage and vibrant purple flowers make it a popular choice for a variety of landscapes, from desert gardens to suburban yards. Leucophyllum frutescens is a great choice for a low-maintenance, water-wise garden and is also attractive to bees and butterflies.

Texas sage can make a unique and attractive addition in a bonsai collection. Its tolerance for dry conditions and ability to thrive in full sun make it well-suited to live in a small pot, and with regular pruning and fertilization, it can be trained into a beautiful flowering bonsai.
